……BILLY SUTER……
DURBAN’S madman of comedy, elastic-limbed Aaron McIlroy, is scrumming down to tackle everything rugby in his latest one-man show, Rugby Mad, which has performances at Durban’s Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from November 11 to 15.
More good news is that SoSuterBill has four tickets to give away to attend the opening performance at 7.30pm on Wednesday, November 11. See competition entry details at the end of this post to be in line to win this great prize!
Get ready to laugh until the final whistle, as Rugby Mad sees versatile singer-actor McIlroy, under the direction of Bryan Hiles, presenting a pacy, character-driven celebration of South Africa’s favourite sport.
McIlroy brings to life a host of unforgettable characters that live and breathe the game. From the overzealous referee and passionate coach to die-hard spectators in the stands, the show promises to catch the humour, intensity and sheer craziness that surrounds rugby culture.
With his trademark energy and razor-sharp comedic timing, McIlroy seamlessly morphs between characters, each more outrageous than the last. Whether it’s sideline drama, locker-room banter, or the emotional rollercoaster of match day, no moment is spared from his comedic lens.
But Rugby Mad is more than just a show for sports fans — it’s a universal comedy about obsession, identity and the things that bring us together. Even those who have never watched a game will find themselves swept up in the hilarity, as McIlroy taps into the shared human experience behind the spectacle.
McIlroy is one of South Africa’s most beloved comedians and performers, known for his dynamic stage presence and ability to create vivid, relatable characters. His work continues to delight audiences across the country.
Performances of Rugby Mad are scheduled for 7.30pm from Wednesday to Saturday, November 11 to 14, then at 2.30pm on Sunday, November 15. Tickets cost only R165 each for the November 11 performance, and thereafter, R200 each (pensioners pay R180).
