……BILLY SUTER……
THE three youngsters signed up to share the title role in the much-anticipated Pieter Toerien and Cape Town Opera touring production of the lavish Lionel Bart musical, Oliver!, have been announced – and even better news is that this site is giving away four tickets to one lucky person, to attend the 7.30pm, Friday, February 5, performance at Johannesburg’s Teatro theatre at Montecasino.
For details on how to enter the competition see the end of this post. BUT – please read entry rules carefully as many people are still entering competitions incorrectly.
Very happy chappies today are 12-year-old Lucas Hau of Rondebosch, 12-year-old James Touze of Paarl and 10-year-old Sam Lamond of Noordhoek – all of whom have been chosen, after extensive auditions, to share the role of the orphaned waif, Oliver Twist, in the much-loved musical based on the classic Charles Dickens novel.
They join a star-studded cast, under the direction of Durban’s Steven Stead, that highlights Jonathan Roxmouth as conniving pickpocket gang leader, Fagin; Daniel Anderson (of Vincent and The Tramp fame) as Fagin’s most seasoned pickpocket, the perky Artful Dodger; Bethany Dickson as the kind-hearted Nancy; and Richard Gau as Nancy’s beau, the menacing Bill Sykes. Also watch for Graham Hopkins, Dianne Simpson, Megan Spencer, Sunny Yoon, William Berger and Chris van Rensburg.
Oliver! will be presented at Cape Town’s Artscape from December 11 to January 17. It then moves to the Teatro at Montecasino from January 29. Booking is via Webtickets and ticket prices for both venues range from R220 to R620.
The show is focused on Oliver Twist crossing paths with many colourful characters while navigating the streets of Victorian London in search of family, belonging and hope. It features such popular songs as Consider Yourself, Where is Love?, Reviewing the Situation. It’s a Fine Life, Oom Pah Pah and Food, Glorious Food.
The story follows Oliver escaping the harsh conditions of a workhouse to find himself entangled with Fagin, Nancy and the infamous Artful Dodger. Through moments of hardship and triumph, Oliver! explores themes of resilience, compassion and the enduring human spirit.
