TWO new musical tribute shows, one by top Durban tribute band The Reals and the other by talented group The Black Lapels, are headed for Durban’s Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo soon – and great news is that this site has four tickets to give away to one of them, Groovin’ with the Girls, starring The Reals with guest singer Marion Loudon.
The four complimentary tickets are for Groovin’ with the Girls’ first performance at the Cunningham Road venue, at 7.30pm on Saturday, September 5 – and more details on how to enter the competition appear at the end of this post.
Also featuring The Reals’ Barry Thomson (vocals and lead guitar), Dawn Selby (musical director, singer and keyboardist), Mali Sewell (singer and drummer) and Robz Millar (bassist and singer), Groovin’ with the Girls will have its second and last performance at the Umbilo Rhumbelow Theatre at 2pm on Sunday, September 6.
The show is billed as a celebration of female talent among the band’s ranks and also a tribute to many top female recording acts, as well as several male music stars.
The song list is scheduled to include the likes of The Pretenders’ Brass In Pocket, Abba’s Does Your Mother Know, Heart’s Alone, a special tip of the hat to Bonnie Tyler hits following her recent death, and also songs by Journey, Stealers Wheel and others.

Before Groovin’ with the Girls takes to the stage, the Rhumbelow will present Back to You – A Tribute to Bryan Adams at 7.30pm on Saturday, August 29 and 2pm on Sunday, August 30. This is a new show by The Black Lapels, featuring Rob Warren (vocals and guitar), his brother Garth Warren (bass) and special guests Colin Peddie (keyboards and guitar) and Bruce Baker (drums).
Fronted by Rob Warren on vocals, the show captures the energy, passion and unmistakable sound that make Bryan Adams one of the world’s most enduring rock artists. Audiences can look forward to classics including Summer of ’69, Heaven, Run to You, Please Forgive Me, Everything I Do (I Do It for You), Back to You and other hits.

As always with Rhumbelow Theatres, the vibe is casual and seating is at tables. Patrons are encouraged to bring along a picnic basket of eats, although all beverages must be bought at the venue’s pub. Limited secure parking is available.
