……BILLY SUTER……
DURBAN’S annual, 10-day winter theatre festival, the 031 Festival, runs from June 4 to 14 at Durban High School’s cosy Seabrooke’s theatre – and great news is that this site has four complimentary tickets to give away!
One person will win two free tickets to Alanis Jagged Little Tribute, a show starring Marion Loudon saluting the hits of Alanis Morrisette (at noon on Sunday, June 7), as well as two tickets to Aaron McIlroy’s hilarious new one-hander comedy, Rugby Mad (at 8pm on Thursday, June 11). See the end of this post for competition entry details.
A rugby mad superfan; a teacher suspended from school; a woman growing old disgracefully; a Bollywood-loving and roti-making wife; a little girl burdened by the pathological carelessness of her parents; a slew of woman singers (Britney Spears, Karen Carpenter, Alanis Morissette) – these are some of the characters one can meet at the fourth annual, family-friendly 031 Festival. Booking is now open at Webtickets.
Eleven productions are on the programme for this year’s event which promises a vibrant celebration of South African theatre, featuring comedy, drama, music and solo performance. The festival has been spearheaded by Lisa Bobbert and Aaron Mcilroy (Macbob Productions) and features an exciting mix of shows, including productions from out of town.
Embedded in the festival is the student festival presented by Durban’s International School of Performing Arts (ISPA) to showcase the range and talent of school’s emerging performers through three distinct productions.
