Scrapbook spotlight: 1998 with Aaron McIlroy & Heather Barclay-Whiffin

From time to time I will dip into scrapbooks that have piled up during  my 24 years as Arts Editor of The Mercury newspaper in Durban and, just for fun, dig out reviews and interviews from yesteryear.

Today I go back to November 1998 and feature two interviews, one with award-winning Durban actor Aaron McIlroy – who, at the time, was appearing locally in his hit show, Abbamaniacs, also starring his wife, Lisa Bobbert.

The other interview is with British-born local Heather Barclay-Whiffin, who was then starring in her third naughty pantomime at the much-missed Playhouse Cellar in Durban. She appeared as Prince Viagra in a shoestring-budget production of Sleeping Beauty, featuring lots of adult humour, sexual innuendo and nudge-wink nonsense.

Hope you enjoy these blasts from the past!
