Shock-rocker Marilyn Manson (pictured) turns 56 today, while one of the world’s highest paid actors, Bradley Cooper, turns 50, and Oscar-winner Robert Duvall turns 94. Actress-model Deepika Padukone turns 39. Former professional footballer-turned-actor Vinnie Jones turns 60 and actress Diane Keaton turns 79.

This day in 1998 marked the death, aged 62, of singer Sonny Bono, former sidekick of Cher.

It was announced on this day in 2025 that popular Liverpool-based drag queen The Vivienne – winner of the first season of Rupaul;s Drag Race UK – had died suddenly, aged 32. No cause of death was revealed. The Vivienne (real name James Lee Williams) appeared as the Wicked Witch in the 2024 UK touring production of the musical, The Wizard of Oz.

On the theatre scene, this day in 1984 saw the opening, on Broadway, of the Tom Stoppard success, The Real Thing, teaming Jeremy Irons, Glenn Close and Christine Baranski, all of whom went on to win Tony Awards while the production took the statuette for best new play and for direction by Mike Nichols.

Also, on this day in 2003, reports Playbill, the Pulitzer-winning drama Proof, which originally starred Mary-Louise Parker, closed on Broadway, after 917 performances – chalking up one of the longest runs for a non-musical in recent years.

On this day in 1981, South Africa’s Springbok Radio chart was topped by the Odyssey song, Going Back to My Roots, which enjoyed three weeks at No 1. Just saying…
