ON THIS DAY IN 2020:

Betty White (pictured) of hit TV series The Golden Girls, turns 98 today, singer Francoise Hardy turns 76 and singer Paul Young celebrates his 64th birthday. Actress Zoey Deschanel turns 40, Jim Carrey turns 58 and Kid Rock turns 49. Chart-topper Calvin Harris turns 36 and Susannah Hoff, formerly of hit group Bangles, turns 61.

Also on this day, in 2004, Tony Award-nominated producer Ray Stark, 88, died of a heart attack. Stark brought the musical Funny Girl to Broadway, and later to the big screen (his mother-in-law was Fanny Brice).

The Anton Chekhov classic, Cherry Orchard, opened at the Moscow Art Theatre on this day in 1904, and also on this day, in 1982, Bucks Fizz was topping the UK singles chart with Land of Make Believe. It enjoyed two weeks at No 1. Just saying…
