Actor Keanu Reeves (pictured) turns 57 today, actress Selma Hayek turns 61 and Mark Harmon (Luke Skywalker in Star Wars) turns 66. Lord of the Rings author J R R Tolkien died on this day in 1973.

It was on this day in 2000 that Brian Littrell of boy band Backstreet Boys, then  aged 25, wed actress Leighanne Wallace, six years his senior, in Atlanta, Georgia. Also married on this day, in 2005, was actress Jennifer Jason Leigh and director-writer Noah Baumbach.

Also married on this day, in 1978, was singer Gloria Estefan. She wed producer and musician Emilio Estefan.

On this day in 1972, Rod Stewart achieved his first No 1 hit, You Wear It Well, while on this day in 1982, Rolling Stones member Keith Richards saw his house burn down.

Today in 1983, Rod Stewart rose to the top of the South African singles chart with Baby Jane, where it remained for five weeks. It marked his second and final No 1. Just saying…
