Aussie actor Sam Neill (pictured), star of Jurassic Park, turns 75 today. while Norwegian singer Morten Harket, of the ’80s band A-Ha, turns 63. Today also marks the birthday of British singer Amy Winehouse, who died, aged 27, in 2011.

It was on this day in 1985 that the award-winning series, The Golden Girls, starring Betty White and Beatrice Arthur, debuted in the US.

Also on this day, in 1954, comedian Jerry Stiller, father of film star Ben Stiller, married Anne Meara. Actor Gene Wilder, then aged 51, married actress and comic Gilda Radner, 13 years his junior, on this day in 1984.

This day in 1962 marked the divorce of actress Janet Leigh and actor Tony Curtis after a decade of marriage. She was 35 and he was 37. They are the parents of actress Jamie Lee Curtis.

The Paul Simon classic, Take Me to the Mardi Gras, topped the South African singles chart on this day in 1973. It stayed put for two weeks. Just saying…
