Jessica Tandy, who won an Oscar for her title role in Driving Miss Daisy, died on this day in 1994, while the first newspaper cartoon strip reportedly appeared on this day in 1875.

This day marked two significant events for The Beatles – drummer Ringo Starr replaced Pete Best on this day in 1962 and, on this day in 1963, George Harrison formed the Mornyork Ltd music publishing company.
