Barry Gibb (pictured) of the Bee Gees, turns 71 today, while actor Scott Speedman turns 52 and singer Gloria Estefan turns 60. Actress Barbara Carrera turns 73 today.

Also celebrating birthdays today are actress Lily Tomlin (78),  director John Woo (71) and US actress-dancer Zendaya, of TV’s Shake It Off (21).

Hal David, who wrote the hit songs Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head and To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before, died on this day in 2012. He was 91.

The Alfred Hitchcock movie, Rear Window, with James Stewart and Grace Kelly, was released on this day in 1954.

It was on this day in 1972 that the Dr Hook and The Medicine Show hit, Sylvia’s Mother, rose to top the South African singles chart, staying there for six consecutive weeks. Just saying…
