Former American Idol winner country singer Scott McCreery (pictured) turns 28 today, while TV personality Sharon Osbourne turns 69  today and Brandon Routh, who played Superman in Superman Returns, turns 42.

Sean Lennon, son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, turns 46 today, while Irish actor Chris O’Dowd, from the film Bridesmaids, turns 42. American musician Jackson Browne turns 73 today.

Christopher Reeve, star of the first Superman films, died on this day in 2004, aged 52, after heart failure.

On the theatre scene, the show Dude, the Gerome Ragni and Galt MacDermot follow-up to their hit Hair, opened on Broadway on this day in 1972. A huge flop, it ran for just 16 performances.

Topping the South African singles chart on this day in 1982 was Da Da Da by Trio. It spent seven weeks at No 1. Just saying…
