Hit-maker Bruno Mars (pictured) turns 33 today, while Aussie actor Paul Hogan (of the Crocodile Dundee films) turns 79 and actress Sigourney Weaver turns 69. Comedian Chevy Chase turns 75 today.

Also celebrating a birthday today is Oscar-winner Matt Damon (38), while Johnny Ramone of the band Ramones was also born on this day. He died, aged 55, in 2004.

It was on this day in 1936 that John Gielgud filled the title role in Hamlet, which opened at the Empire Theatre on Broadway. Lillian Gish played Ophelia. Also, on this day in 1979, Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller teamed for the burlesque-style Broadway revue, Sugar Baby, which ran for 1 208 performances.
