It was on this day in 1957 that the film Jailhouse Rock, starring Elvis Presley (pictured), opened in the US – and on this day in 1964 that My Fair Lady, starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, had its premiere in New York, going on to take the Best Picture Oscar the following year.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian turns 41 today, while Steve Lukather, guitarist with Toto, turns 64 and actor Ken Watanabe turns 62. Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia in Star Wars, would have turned 65 today. She died in 2016. Also celebrating her birthday today is Durban musician Dawn Selby.

Turning 26 today is American hit-maker Doja Cat, who has a South African-born father.

This day, in 1975, saw Elton John get a star on Hollywood Boulevard.

At the top of the UK singles chart on this day in 1974 was Sad Sweet Dreamer by Sweet Sensation. It spent one weeks at No 1. Just saying…
