Former Dutch actress, model and painter Sylvia Kristel died, aged 60, on this day in 2013. Also note that Frederic Chopin died on this day in 1849.

The film Bullitt, directed by Peter Yates and starring Steve McQueen and Jacqueline Bisset, was released in the US on this day in 1986.

On this day in 1945 actress Ava Gardner married band leader Artie Shaw, 13 years her senior at age 35, in Hollywood; while in 1952, also on this day, country music legend Hank Williams married Billie Jean Jones in Louisiana.

At the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1981 was Urgent by Foreigner. It spent six weeks at No 1. Just saying…
