This Day in Showbiz History… October 18

High School Musical star Zac Effron (pictured) turns 35 today, singer Ne-Yo turns 44, action star Jean-Claude Van Damme turns 62 and Slumdog Millionaire actress Freido Pinto turns 37.

It was on this day in 1961 that the musical West Side Story was released. Starring Natalie Wood and directed by Jerome Robbins, it went on to take the Oscar for Best Picture the following year.

This day, in 1970, saw actor Lee Marvin marry radio producer Pamela Marvin, while Matthew Morrison (he played the kind singing club teacher in TV’s Glee), married Renee Puente in Maui on this day in 2014.

Actress Demi Moore and actor Bruce Willis were divorced on this day in 2000, after 13 years of marriage.

At the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1985 was The Power of Love by Jennifer Rush. It spent 10 weeks at No 1. Not one of my favourite songs. Just saying…
