Singer-songwriter Paul Simon (pictured) turns 78 today, while Sammy Hagar, the former vocalist with Van Halen, turns 72, and singer Nana Mouskouri (of Never on a Sunday fame) turns 85.

Actress Kelly Preston, wife of John Travolta, turns 57 today and Sacha Baron Cohen (of Borat fame) turns 48. Today also marks the  birthday of Maggie Thatcher, who died in 2013.

The film All About Eve, with Bette Davis and Anne Baxter, premiered in the US on this day in 1950 and went on to take the Best Picture Oscar the following year.

Rising to the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1973 was Baby Blue by George Baker Selection. It spent three weeks at No 1. Just saying…
