Singer-songwriter Paul Simon (pictured) turns 81 today, while Sammy Hagar, the former vocalist with Van Halen, turns 75, and singer Nana Mouskouri (of Never on a Sunday fame) turns 88.

Sacha Baron Cohen (of Borat fame) turns 51 today, which also marks the  birthday of Maggie Thatcher, who died in 2013, and actress Kelly Preston, who died in 2019 at the age of 57.

The film All About Eve, with Bette Davis and Anne Baxter, premiered in the US on this day in 1950 and went on to take the Best Picture Oscar the following year.

Rising to the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1973 was Baby Blue by George Baker Selection. It spent three weeks at No 1. Just saying…
