Actor Paul Walker (pictured), died on this day in 2013, aged 40, while singer Billy Idol turns 67 today. Former American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken turns 44, actor Ben Stiller turns 57 and singer-actor Mandy Patinkin turns 70.

Actor Gael Garcia Bernal turns 44 today and director Ridley Scott, who made Gladiator and Thelma and Louise, celebrates his 85th birthday.

It was on this day in 1982 that Gandhi, directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Ben Kingsley, was released, taking the Best Picture Oscar the following year.

This day in 1990 saw Burt Lancaster suffer a stroke, while on this day in 1993, the Steven Spielberg classic, Schindler’s List, was released and went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture the following year.

The Queen hit, Bohemian Rhapsody, rose to the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1975. The song spent nine weeks in the top spot – and returned there when the single was reissued in 1991. Just saying…
