This Day in Showbiz History… November 18

On This Day in 2019:

Kids in America and Cambodia singer Kim Wilde (pictured) turns 58 today, while actor Owen Wilson turns 50 and actor Damon Wayans Jnr turns 36.

Actress Chloe Sevigny turns 44 and singer John Parr, of St Elmo’s Fire fame, turns 64. Gruff-voiced French singer Amanda Lear – remember the hit Give a Bit of Hmm to Me? – turns 72 today, while Dynasty star Linda Evans turns 76.

It was on this day in 1959 that the classic Ben-Hur, starring Charlton Heston,  premiered in New York. It went on to take the Best Picture Oscar the following year.

This day in 1980 saw the New York premiere of Heaven’s Gate, starring Christopher Walken and Kris Kristofferson, one of the biggest box-office flops in history.

The Matthew’s Southern Comfort hit, Woodstock, was crowning the UK singles chart on this day in 1970. The song, written by Canadian Joni Mitchell, spent three weeks in the top spot. Just saying…
