This Day in Showbiz History… November 18

Kids in America and Cambodia singer Kim Wilde (pictured) turns 57 today, while actor Owen Wilson turns 49 and actor Damon Wayans Jnr turns 35.

Actress Chloe Sevigny turns 43 and singer John Parr, of St Elmo’s Fire fame, turns 63. Gruff-voiced French singer Amanda Lear – remember the hit Give a Bit of Hmm to Me? – turns 71 today, while Dynasty star Linda Evans turns 75.

It was on this day in 1959 that the classic Ben-Hur, starring Charlton Heston,  premiered in New York. It went on to take the Best Pucture Oscar the following year.

This day in 1980 saw the New York premiere of Heaven’s Gate, starring Christopher Walken and Kris Kristofferson, one of the biggest box-office flops in history.

The Matthew’s Southern Comfort hit, Woodstock, was crowning the UK singles chart on this day in 1970. The song, written by Canadian Joni Mitchell, spent three weeks in the top spot. Just saying…
