Gone with the Wind star Clark Gable (pictured) died on this day in 1960, aged 59. And singer-pianist Diana Krall was born 59 years ago today, while actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, sister of actor Jake, turns 46.

Actress Lisa Bonet, of TV’s The Cosby Show, turns 56 today, and this day in 1987 marked the day Bonet married musician and actor Lenny Kravitz.

The Sound of Music opened on Broadway on this day in 1959. Mary Martin starred in the musical which went on to enjoy 1 433 performances. It took the 1960 Tony Award for Best Musical (shared with Fiorello!) and spawned the Oscar-winning 1965 film starring Julie Andrews.

Walt Disney launched Epcot Centre in Florida on this day in 1986, while the Ray Parker Jr hit, Ghostbusters, rose to the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1984. The song, from the hit comedy film of the same name, spent one week in the top spot. Just saying…
