Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue (pictured) turns 54 today while John Fogerty, former lead singer with Creedence Clearwater Revival, turns 77 and singer Gladys Knight turns 78. Locally, today also marks the birthday of popular Durban artist and art columnist Marianne Meijer, who died on July 30, 2020, at the age of 85.

On this day in 1976, the Roman Polanski hit, Taxi Driver, with Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster, took the coveted Palm d’or award at the 29th Cannes Film Festival.

It was on this day in 2013 that Friends star Courtney Cox divorced actor David Arquette after 13 years of marriage… and on the radio scene, today in 1951 marked the first time the hit The Good Show was broadcast on the BBC.

Beds Are Burning by Aussie band Midnight Oil rose to the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1988. It spent five weeks crowning the chart. Just saying…
