Hollywood’s Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, long famous for its hand prints and footprints of the stars, opened on this day in 1927, while on this day in 1965, the creator of TV’s Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry, reportedly suggested 16 names for the show’s captain; one of those names being Kirk.

It was on this day in 2007 that Grammy-winner Amy Winehouse, then aged 23, married 25-year-old video production assistant Blake Fielder-Civil in Miami.

On the theatre scene, today, in 2003, saw the musical Les Miserables enjoy its 6 680th and final Broadway performance after 16 years.
