Actor Gary Cooper, born in 1901, died on this day in 1961, and Chet Baker died on this day in 1988, the jazz trumpeter having fallen out of a hotel window. He was 59.

The Beatles movie, Let It Be, premiered on this day in 1970, while The Rolling Stones recorded Satisfaction on this day in 1965, and on this day in 1992,  America’s NBC network screened the final episode of the popular Night Court.

On the theatre scene, the musical The Pyjama Game opened on Broadway on this day in 1954. It went on to enjoy 1 063 performances.
