Billy Joel (pictured) turns 69 today, while Dave Gahan, vocalist with Depeche Mode, turns 56 today and actress Candice Bergen turns 72. Albert Finney, who played Daddy Warbucks in the first film version of Annie, turns 82 today.

Actor John Corbett (star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding) turns 57 and singer Tommy Roe (remember Dizzy?) turns 76.

The Alfred Hitchcock thriller, Vertigo, teaming Kim Novak and James Stewart, was released on this day in 1958, while on this day in 1971, at the 23rd Emmy Awards, All in the Family took the award for best comedy series.

Also of note is that this day, in 1992, marked the final episode in the US of the hit series, The Golden Girls.

Crowning the South African Springbok Radio singles chart on this day in 1981 was I Am the Beat by The Look. It spent two weeks at No 1. Just saying…
