Five years ago on this day, the acclaimed Peter Morgan play, The Audience, starring Helen Mirren (pictured), opened on Broadway. A chronicle of Queen Elizabeth II in imagined meetings with each of her Prime Ministers, the play saw Mirren take the Tony Award for her performance, as did Richard McCabe for his performance as Harold Wilson.

Legends of the Fall star Aidan Quinn turns 64 today, while Dawson’s Creek heart-throb James van Beek turns 46 and I Know What You Did Last Summer star Freddie Prinze Junior turns 47.

It was on this day in 1962, that The Beatles reportedly made their TV debut, with Pete Best still in the band, performing Dream Baby on the BBC.

On this day in 2003, Beautiful by Christina Aguilera climbed to the top of the UK singles chart, where it remained for two weeks. The ballad marked her fourth UK chart-topper. Just saying…
