Little Britain star Matt Lucas (pictured) turns 49 today and South African choreographer Jay Pather also celebrates his birthday today. Actress Eva Mendes turns 49.

Much-loved South African TV personality and radio legend, Mark Pilgrim, died, aged 53, on this day in 2023. He put up a valiant fight against Stage 4 lung cancer which had spread to his femur, the base of his spine and lymph nodes.He was first diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1988.

American actor Dean Stockwell was born on this day in 1936. He died on November 7, 2021, aged 85. My Fair Lady star Rex Harrison, who died in June 1990, was also born on this day, in 1908.

Actor John Belushi, of Blues Brothers fame, died on this died in 1982, aged 33, while country singer Patsy Cline, born in 1932, died on this day in 1968.

On this day in 2018, the romantic fantasy The Shape of Water took the Best Picture Oscar, while Frances McDormand was named Best Actress for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Gary Oldman took the Best Actor Oscar for Darkest Hour. Coco took the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

On this day in 1936, at the eighth Academy Awards, Mutiny on the Bounty took the statuette for Best Picture, with the Best Actress award going to Bette Davis for her role in Dangerous and the Best Actor statuette going to Victor McLaglen for his role in The Informer.

On this day in 2006, Madonna was topping the UK singles chart with her 12th No 1 song, Sorry, from her Confessions on a Dance Floor album. Just saying…
