The TV drama series, T J Hooker, starring William Shatner (pictured), made its debut on America’s NBC network  on this day in 1982.

On this day in 1986, Meryl Streep took a People’s Choice Award for favourite actress, Bill Cosby took the award for favourite all-round male entertainer, and The Golden Girls took the statuette for best new TV show.

Actor Emile Hirsch turns 34 today, while actor William H Macy turns 69 and singer-songwriter Neil Sedaka turns 80. Actress Dana Delany turns 63.
