angelaON THIS DAY IN 2019:

It was on this day in 1979 that the glorious Stephen Sondheim classic, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, opened on Broadway, starring Angela Lansbury (pictured) and Len Cariou. The show swept the Tony Awards, taking prizes for best musical, lead actor and lead actress, director (Harold Prince), book, score and also scenic and costume design, reports Playbill.

Birthdays today? Pop star Justin Bieber turns 25, pop star Kesha turns 32, director Ron Howard turns 65, TV actor Alan Thicke (father of singer Robin Thicke) turns 71 and Dirk Benedict (of TV’s The A-Team) turns 74.
