This Day in Showbiz History… March 17

Actor Kurt Russell (pictured) turns 69 today, while Irish singer Hozier (of Take Me to Church fame) turns 30, actor Rob Lowe turns 56 and Gary Sinise turns 65.

Others celebrating birthdays today include reality TV star Rob Kardashian (33) and Pattie Boyd – author, ex-model and former wife of George Harrison – who turns 76.

Also of note to fans of TV’s Dallas is that Patrick Duffy, who played Bobby Ewing, turns 71 today.

On the theatre scene, this day in 2005 was a good one on Broadway. It marked the start of previews  for two hit shows – the acclaimed  musical Spamalot – starring  Tim Curry, David Hyde-Pierce and Hank Azaria – and The Light in the Piazza. Both shows dominated  the 2005 Tony Awards.

On this day in 1985, Wild Boys by Duran Duran was topping the South Africa’s Springbok Radio chart, where it remained for one week. Just saying…
