This Day in Showbiz History… June 5

ON THIS DAY IN 2021:

Troye Sivan (pictured), singer-actor and star of the Spud movies, turns 27 today, while US movie star Mark Wahlberg celebrates his 51st birthday and Pete Wentz of the band Fall Out Boy turns 43.

Actor and former US president Ronald Reagan died on this day in 2004, aged 93.

It was on this day in 1998 that The Truman Show, one of the better films starring Jim Carrey, and also featuring Laura Linney and Ed Harris, was released in the US.

Today in 2004 marked the day that actress-singer Jennifer Lopez, then 43, married salsa artist Marc Anthony, then 42, in California. Also today, in 1945, the Benjamin Britten opera, Peter Grimes, premiered in London.

Spider, Spider a hit for local band Tidal Wave – which happens to be the first seven-single I ever bought – rose to the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1970. It spent a week there. Just saying…
