Dominic Cooper, star of the Mamma Mia film, turns 41; Wayne’s World star Dana Carvey turns 64; and Wentworth Miller, star of TV’s Prison Break, turns 47. Wayne Brady, comedian, also turns 47 today.
Locally, Durban trumpeter Cathy Peacock, a member of the KZNPO and the leader of the hit Platform Jazz band, also celebrates her birthday.
On this day in 2003, reports Playbill, producers pulled the plug on a Broadway-bound revival of Little Shop of Horrors after the musical’s Florida tryout, and the planned August 14 opening cancelled. Virtually the entire cast and production team was replaced, with only leading man Hunter Foster retained. Under new director, Jerry Zaks, the production opened on Broadway four months later, and Foster is the lone person from the production nominated for a Tony Award, adds Playbill.
