Local actress Fiona Ramsay celebrates her birthday today, as do the big-screen’s Captain America, Chris Evans (pictured), who turns 41; and Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story), who turns 69. Actor Stellan Skarsgard turns 71 today and Malcolm McDowell, of A Clockwork Orange fame, turn 79.

On the TV scene, the popular Bob Newhart Show aired its last episode in the US on this day in 1962, while on this day in 1985 the hit Prizzi’s Honor, teaming Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner, was released.

It was on this day in 1988 that actor Bill Murray, then 57, divorced costume designer Jennifer Butler, 42, after 10 years of marriage.

The Creedence Clearwater Revival hit, Proud Mary, rose to the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1969, spending two weeks at No 1. It was the band’s first No 1 hit locally. Just saying…
