Peter Dinklage (pictured), star of TV’s Game of Thrones, turns 48 today, while actor Shia LeBeouf turns 31 and Hugh Laurie, star of TV’s House, turns 58. Actor Gene Wilder, who died last year, was born on this day in 1933.

John Wayne died on this day in 1979, aged 72. Another who died on this day, in 2015, was Ron Moody, the British actor who played the scheming London crime lord, Fagin, in both the stage and film versions of the musical Oliver!. He was 91 when he died.

South African playwright Athol Fugard turns 85 today.

It was on this day in 1978 that the film, Grease, with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, opened; and on this day, in 2002, that Paul McCartney, then 59, wed former model Heather Mills, then 34, in Ireland
