Actor David Niven, born in 1910, died on this day in 1983, while legendary Broadway choreographer Jerome Robbins also died on this day, aged 79, in 1998. His stellar projects included West Side Story, Gypsy, On the Town, Fiddler on the Roof and The King and I.

The hit film starring The Beatles, Help!, had its British premiere on this day in 1965, an event attended by Queen Elizabeth.

It was on this day in 2006 that buxom Baywatch star Pamela Anderson married rocker Kid Rock in Saint-Tropez, France.
