Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers (pictured), star of  many films and TV’s The Tudors, turns 40 today while singer Bobby Gentry turns 73 and George Shelley, singer with the British band Union J, turns 24.

Maureen McGovern, who had a hit with The Morning After, from the ’70s film The Poseidon Adventure, turns 68 today. Taylor Schilling, star of TV’s Orange is the New Black, turns 33.

The musical Little Shop of Horrors had its off-Broadway premiere on this day in 1982. It went on to be turned into a film directed by Frank Oz, starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin.

The George McRae hit Rock Your Baby – considered by many to be the first disco No 1 – rose to the top of the UK singles chart on this day in 1974, where it remained for three weeks. Just saying…
