ON THIS DAY IN 2022:

It was on this day in 1946 that Dean Martin (pictured) and Jerry Lewis presented their first show as a comedy team, at Club 500 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Birthdays today – Matt LeBlanc of Friends turns 55 and James Lafferty of TV’s One Tree Hill, turns 37. Today also marks the birthday of Estelle Getty (Sophia in TV’s The Golden Girls), who died in 2008.

On the music scene, The Beatles reached No 1 with their album A Hard Day’s Night on this day in 1964, where it remained for 14 weeks; while this day in 1966 saw Brian Jones make his final appearance as a member of the Rolling Stones.

This day in 1966 marked Eric Clapton recording guitar tracks for the George Harrison hit, While My Guitar Gently Weeps. The same day and year was of further note in that The Supremes released the classic You Can’t Hurry Love then.

The single Little Yellow Aeroplane by Leapy Lee rose to the top of the South African hit parade on this day in 1969, spending a week there. Just saying…
