This Day in Showbiz History… February 3

ON THIS DAY IN 2023:

Actress Blythe Danner (pictured), mother of Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow, turns 80 today, and stage and film star Nathan Lane, the voice of Timon the meerkat in The Lion King movie, turns 67. Singer Sean Kingston (remember his hit single, Beautiful Girls?) turns 33.

This day in 2012 marked the death, at age 81, of actor Ben Gazzara, who created the role of Brick in the Tennessee Williams classic, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Playbill reports that he was nominated for Tony Awards for his performances in A Hatful of Rain, Hughie/Duet and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf?

On the film scene, this day in 1960 marked the premiere, in Italy, of La Dolce Vita, directed by Federico Fellini and starring Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg.

Topping the Springbok Radio chart on this day in 1978 was the Clout classic, Substitute. It enjoyed eight weeks at No 1. Just saying…
