This Day in Showbiz History… February 2

shakiraON THIS DAY IN 2024:

Hip-shaker Shakira (pictured) turns 47 today and Graham Nash (of The Hollies and CSNY) turns 82.

It was 10 years ago today that Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman died at the age of 46, while others who died on this day include legendary dancer-actor Gene Kelly (83 when he passed in 1996) and Sex Pistols member Sid Vicious, who was 21 when he passed in 1979.

It’s also worth noting that on this day in 1969, Boris Karloff, who played the monster in Frankenstein , died at the age of 82 in Sussex, England.

Playbill reports that this day in 1925 marked the birth, in Detroit, of the delightful, tart-tongued Elaine Stritch, whose Broadway appearances included Company, Sail Away, Pal Joey, A Delicate Balance and her Tony-winning solo show, Elaine Stritch at Liberty. She was 89 when she died in 2014.

This week, in 1967, the UK hit-parade was topped for the third of its four weeks at the top of the chart, by The Monkees classic, I’m a Believer, used years later in the film Shrek. Just saying…
