Durban guitar wizard Nibs van der Spuy turns 57 today, while also celebrating birthdays are award-winning local stage actress Jessica Sole.

It was on this day in 1944 that the Batman and Robin comic strips first started appearing in newspapers, and on this day in 1968 that John Cleese married Connie Booth, who played Polly in the hit Fawlty Towers TV series.

Playbill reports that it was on this day in 2014 that the musical version of the Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood film success, Bridges of Madison County, opened on Broadway. It ran for only 100 performances, but won a Tony Award for orchestrations and score.
