This Day in Showbiz History…December 22

Meghan Trainor (pictured), of All About That Bass fame, turns 29 today and Hector Elizondo (the mentor of the Julia Roberts hooker character in Pretty Woman) turns 86. Ralph Fiennes turns 60 and former American Idol winner Jordin Sparks turns 33.

The horror film The Mummy, starring Boris Karloff, was released on this day in 1932, while the classic Dr Zhivago had its New York premiere on this day in 1965.

Also on this day, in 2006, Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh divorced Oscar-winning Sideways director Alexander Payne, due to irreconcilable differences, after five years of marriage.

It is also worth noting that it was 21 years to the day that Madonna and director Guy Ritchie tied the knot at Skibo Castle in Scotland. They are divorced now, of course.

On this day in 2014, the world lost Joe Cocker, and it was on this day in 2002 that The Clash’s Joe Strummer died.

The Safety Dance by Men Without Hats was topping the South African Springbok Radio Top 20 this week in 1983. It spent 10 weeks at No 1. Just saying…
