Remember the 1979 disco hit, Ring My Bell? Well the singer, Anita Ward, turns 66 today, the same day actor Jonah Hill (pictured) turns 398 and Israeli spoon-bending illusionist and TV host Uri Geller turns 76.

Today also marks the 13th anniversary of the death of actress Brittany Murphy star of Sin City and Clueless, who was 32 when she died in 2009.

On this day in 1967, The Graduate, with Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft, has its world premiere, while on the theatre scene, on this day in 1981, the Michael Bennett musical, Dreamgirls, opened on Broadway. It served as a star vehicle for Jennifer Holliday, whose performance as Effie won her a Tony Award. The musical went on to enjoy 1 500 performances.

On the South African music scene, the top song this week in 1982, on the Springbok Radio Top 20, was Words by F R David. It topped the chart for seven weeks. Just saying…
