This Day in Showbiz History… December 4

To make you feel old, note that it was 47 years to the day that Neil Diamond (pictured) was topping the South African charts with Cracklin’ Rosie, in 1970.

This day in 2016 was a historic day for the wonderful stage musical Wicked, reports Playbill. The reason is that this clever ‘prequel’ to The Wizard of Oz became the ninth longest-running production in Broadway history when it played its 5 462nd performance at New York’s Gershwin Theatre at 2pm, surpassing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

The show has been seen in more than 100 cities in 16 countries since opening in 2003, and has been translated into six languages.

Celebrating birthdays today are Oscar-winners Jeff Bridges (68) and Marisa Tomei (53), rapper Jay Z (48) and model and TV show host Tyra Banks (44).
