She was 13 when, on this day in 1955, Barbra Streisand (pictured) made her first recording, a private recording of You’ll Never Know. Also, this day in 1965 saw the premiere in Tokyo of the fourth 007 movie, Thunderball, starring Sean Connery and Claudine Auger.

Actress Mary Tyler Moore – who died on January 25, 2017, aged 80 – was born on this day in 1936, while singer-actress Yvonne Elliman (of If I Cant Have You fame) turns 71, Ted Danson turns 75, singer Marianne Faithful turns 76 and Oscar-winner Jon Voight (father of Angelina Jolie) turns 84.

On the classical music scene, it is reported that on this day in 1812, Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No 10 in G major, Opus 96 was performed for the first time.

Buccaneer, by South African band McCully Workshop, spent the first of two weeks topping South Africa’s Springbok Radio chart this week in 1977. Just saying…
