This Day in Showbiz History… December 27

ON THIS DAY IN 2022:

On this day in 2002, the film version of the hit musical Chicago (pictured) opened worldwide, and went on to scoop the Oscar for Best Picture, becoming the first musical since Oliver!, in 1968, to take the award.

On this day in 1999, US soap opera diva Susan Lucci (who stars in TV’s Devious Maids) made her first appearance on Broadway as Annie Oakley, a temporary replacement for Tony Award-winning Bernadette Peters, in the revival of the Irving Berlin musical, Annie Get Your Gun.

It is also interesting to note that It was on this day, in 1932, that the famous Radio City Music Hall opened in New York City, while today also marks the birthday of Marlene Dietrich, who was born in 1901 and died in 1992.

Also celebrating a birthdays today is English actress and model Lily Cole (35). Today also marks the birthday of French actor Gerard Depardieu, who turns 74.

Around My Dream by Silver Pozzoli enjoyed the first of its two weeks at the top of South Africa’s Springbok Radio chart this week in 1985. Just saying…
