This Day in Showbiz History… December 23

This day in 1997 marked the wedding of then-62-year-old director Woody Allen (pictured) and Mia Farrow’s adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn, then aged 27. Woody, by the way, turned 87 on November 30.

Michael Kidd, the celebrated stage and screen choreographer-director who won five Tony Awards and an Honorary Academy Award – and whose choreography credits include Guys and Dolls on both stage and screen – died on this day in 2007. He was 92, reports Playbill.

Among those celebrating birthdays today are Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder (58) and model and former girlfriend of Hugh Hefner, Holly Madison (43).

Interestingly, on this day in 1938, it was reported that the costume of Margaret Hamilton, who played the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz, caught fire during filming. And this day in 1930 marked the Hollywood arrival of Bette Davis under contract to Universal Studios.

Kiss You All Over by Exile topped the South African Springbok Radio Top 20 this week in 1978. The song enjoyed eight weeks crowning the chart. Just saying…
