ON THIS DAY IN 2022:

Michael Jackson (pictured) would have celebrated his 64th birthday today. He died, aged 50, in 2009.

Lea Michele, who played Rachel Berry in TV’s Glee, turns 36 today, while comic Lenny Henry turns 64 and actor Elliot Gould, former husband of Barbra Streisand, turns 84. Director Joel Schumacher – who died on June 22, 2020 – would have turned 83 today.

Actress Ingrid Bergman was born on this day in 1915 – and died on this day in 1982, aged 67. Also, comic actor Gene Wilder died on this day in 2016, aged 83.

The Walt Disney hit, Mary Poppins, for which Julie Andrews, in her first movie role, went on to clinch a Best Actress Oscar, was released on this day in 1964.

It was on this day in 2015 that Kyle Jean-Baptiste,  who made history as the youngest actor and first African-American to play the role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables on Broadway, died at the age of 21 after falling from a fire escape.

Whitney Houston rose to the top of the South African singles chart on this day in 1987, with I Wanna Dance With Somebody. It spent two weeks crowning the chart. Just saying…
