This Day in Showbiz History… August 26

Actress Melissa McCarthy (pictured) turns 52 today, while both former child star Macaulay Culkin, as well as Into the Woods and Star Trek star Chris Pine, turn 42.

Singer Laura Branigan (remember her hits Gloria and Self Control?) died at the age of 52 on this day in 2004. Director Tobe Hooper died on this day in 2017, and playwright Neil Simon passed away on this day in 2018.

It was on this day in 1951 that the film An American in Paris, starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron, premiered in London, going on to take the Best Picture Oscar in 1952.

Today in 2012 saw the London marriage of Bridesmaids star Chris O’Dowd and British TV presenter Dawn Porter.

Topping the LM Radio chart on this day in 1974 was Machine Gun by The Commodores. Just saying…
