Sam Worthington (pictured), the Aussie star of Avatar, turns 46 today, while English singer-songwriter Charli XCX, who had a hit with Boom Clap, turns 30. Weeds and Fried Green Tomatoes actress Mary Louise Parker turns 58 today, which also marks the birthday of actor Peter O’Toole, who died, aged 81, in 2013.

On this day in 1967, the Norman Jewison film, In the Heat of the Night, starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger, premiered in New York. It went on to take the Oscar for Best Picture the following year.

Today in 1999 marked the premiere of the hit The Sixth Sense, starring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment, while the film American Graffiti premiered on this day in 1973. It starred Richard Dreyfuss.

On this day in 1986, George Michael had his second and final No 1 hit in South Africa with A Different Corner. It spent four weeks topping the chart. Just saying…
