Singer Johnny Nash (pictured), who had a huge hit in the 1970s with I Can See Clearly Now, turns 80 today while Queen bassist John Deacon turns 69 and Ginger Baker, former drummer with Cream, turns 81.

Ian Gillan, lead vocalist with Deep Purple, turns 75. Actor John Stamos, of the old TV series Full House, turns 57. Actor Adam Arkin turns 64 and Jim Carter, of Downton Abbey, turns 72.

It was on this day in 1980 that the Willy Russell play, Educating Rita, premiered in London with Julie Walters in the name role. She went on to also star in the film version, alongside Michael Caine.

Today in 1993 marked the marriage of actress Kim Basinger and actor Alec Baldwin.

I Turn To You, a hit for former Spice Girls member Melanie C rose to the top of the UK chart on this day in 2000 and spent one week there. Just saying…
