Pop-reggae singer Johnny Nash (pictured), who had a huge hit in the 1970s with I Can See Clearly Now, was born in Houston, Texas, on this day in 1940. He died, aged 80, on October 6, 2020.
Queen bassist John Deacon turns 71 today and Ginger Baker, former drummer with Cream, was born in London on this day in 1939. He died in October 2019, aged 80.
Ian Gillan, lead vocalist with Deep Purple, turns 77. Actor John Stamos, of the old TV series Full House, turns 59. Actor Adam Arkin ( of TV’s Chicago Hope) turns 66 and Jim Carter, of Downton Abbey, turns 74.
It was on this day in 1980 that the Willy Russell play, Educating Rita, premiered in London with Julie Walters in the name role. She went on to also star in the film version, alongside Michael Caine.
