Durban singer-actor Anthony Stonier, star of countless pantos, celebrates his birthday today, while US actor Paul Rudd turns 53 today, actor Billy Dee Williams turns 85 and film director  Barry Levinsohn turns 80.

The first animated cartoon was copyrighted on this day in 1906, while the first broadcast of Little Orphan Annie, a serial on America’s NBC Radio, took place on this day in 1931. The character would be the inspiration for the hit stage and screen musical, Annie.
